SPECTACULAR will
be the biggest theatrical event ever seen in Australia. Direct from
Europe, this world tour premiere brings to life the classic tale made famous
by the eleven time Academy Award winning 1959 Hollywood
movie 'Ben Hur' starring Charlton Heston.
BEN HUR - THE STADIUM SPECTACULAR combines the scale of the Sydney
Olympic Games Opening Ceremony with the drama of the slave who dared defy the
Roman Empire. The monumental $15 million
stadium adaptation, crafted by renowned French director Robert Hossein,
features a live chariot race with 32 horses, a giant Roman galleon and a
grand stage which will transform ANZ Stadium into the biggest Roman

October 30:- Strange Bedfellows. The Musical, Regent Theatre,
Albury, (Matinee), The
show will star John Wood (Blue Heelers), Peter Cousens (London’s
Phantom of the opera) and Colette Mann (Prisoner) and is based on the award
winning hit film Strange Bedfellows that starred Paul Hogan and Michael
Caton. 60 year-old Ralph Williams (John
Wood) and his 55 year-old best mate, Vince Hopgood (Peter Cousens), have
money problems.Ralph owns the local garage in the small country town of
Yackandandah, but is too lenient with his customers whilst Vince has just
received a massive tax bill thanks to the manipulations of his bitter
ex-wife. The two are buggered! Suddenly, Vince spots a newspaper headline
– the government has passed new legislation giving same-sex couples
equal tax breaks to married folk.This is the answer to Vince’s prayers!After
days of pleading and some begging, Vince persuades a very reluctant Ralph
that they should register as a same-sex couple – they can pool their incomes
and create a family trust and only the Tax Department will ever know! Two
weeks later a letter arrives, an investigator is coming to audit their claim.Suddenly,
Ralph and Vince, two blokes who don’t know if they’ve ever met a
gay person, two blokes who still don’t believe Rock Hudson really was
gay, now have a week to learn how to pose as a loving gay couple in a small
town that knows them as anything but….This is going to call for some
fancy footwork. After all they’re close mates, but not that
close!!

Australian Music Events is pleased to announce the
return ofYVONNE KENNY AM, one of the most distinguished sopranos of
her generation with internationally-acclaimed tenor and Opera Australia star ROSARIO LA
SPINA. They will be joined by 100 voices and 50-piece orchestra led by
one of Australia’s
most entertaining conductors, GUY NOBLE.

Feb. 26/27:-Hair Spray the Musical, Princess Theatre, Melbourne, In Hairspray,
it's 1962, the '50s are out and change is in the air. Baltimore's Tracy Turnblad, a big girl with
big hair and an even bigger heart, has only one passion - to dance. She wins
a spot on the local TV dance programme, 'The Corny Collins Show' and,
overnight, is transformed from outsider to irrepressible teen celebrity. But
can a trendsetter in dance and fashion vanquish the programme's reigning
princess, win the heart of heartthrob Link Larkin, and integrate a television
show without denting her 'do? Only in Hairspray! Welcome to the '60s! The
musical features an original score by Marc Shaiman (who co-wrote the music
and lyrics for the acclaimed animated musical, 'South Park:
Bigger, Longer & Uncut') and Scott Wittman. Their songs take Tracy from the soundstage of a '60s-style dance show to
the streets of Baltimore
to a downtown rhythm and blues record shop.
